East Atlanta History Night

  • Branan Towers 1200 Glenwood Avenue Southeast Atlanta, GA, 30316 United States

Join us to help tell the story of East Atlanta!

This spring, the East Atlanta Community Association is sponsoring the completion of a draft National Register of Historic Places nomination for East Atlanta. The draft is being completed by Georgia State University graduate students. This project is focusing on the general area from Moreland Avenue north and east to I-20, and south generally to Eastland and Fayetteville roads.

A narrative developmental history constitutes a significant part of a nomination document. The students need the help of East Atlantans current and past to document as much of East Atlanta’s development from the 1880s through the 1970s as possible.

We invite the public to bring old photographs, house plans, articles, real estate ads, business ads, property sales brochures, yearbooks from the neighborhood schools, old church bulletins, and any other type of historical documentation relevant to this area to Brannan Towers on the evening of March 7. The students will have scanners on site to copy this documentation, and will be prepared to interview anyone with oral history to share.

If you cannot attend March 7, but have documentation or information to share about the development of or life in these neighborhood before the 1970s, or questions about this project, please contact Stephanie L. Cherry-Farmer at stephanie.cherry@gmail.com or (609) 203-2285.

NOTE: This event does not include planned programming or a presentation of historical documentation or findings- this event is simply a "get together" designed to facilitate connecting individuals with historical documentation to share to the research team that needs to see it.

We are honored to document and recognize the history of East Atlanta, and we thank you in advance for your assistance!
