CFM pays tribute to late East Atlanta chef, Angus Brown on Nov 10th

One of East Atlanta's gems is the weekly farmers market, East Atlanta Village Farmers Market (EAVFM), where local vendors bring high quality goods to the lot across Midway Pub every Thursday from 4 pm to 8 pm, nearly 9 months out of the year. But who coordinates the vendors each year, raises funds for the EBT/SNAP match program, and hosts community events like Free Fried Okra day and the seasonal potlucks? Sam Gader, a local resident of East Atlanta, takes care of our farmers market and works for the local non-profit Community Farmers Market (CFM).

Community Farmers Markets (CFM) will be hosting its inaugural Red Clay Soirée fundraising gala on Friday, November 10. This worthwhile fundraiser will not only go back into our farmers market, but also feature the Octopus Bar and honor the late East Atlanta chef Angus Brown of SoBa and Octopus Bar.

“We wanted to work with people... who are really supporting our farmers markets on a daily basis,” says Katie Hayes, CFM’s executive director.

When guests enter Summerour Studio on the Westside that evening, they’ll be greeted by chefs Nhan Le and Wilson Gourley of Octopus Bar and 8 Arm. The duo will be shucking oysters and passing out bubbly in honor of the late chef Angus Brown, for whom there will also be a special toast. “He was CFM’s number one fan,” says Hayes. He was a huge champion for us.”

(In addition,) Octopus Bar’s Duane Kulers will be the lead chef. “Duane comes to the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market every Thursday, and fills up his baskets, and walks the two blocks from the market to Octopus Bar,” says Hayes.
